Silvetti’s “Spring Rain” was released in 1976 on Salsoul Records at the dizzying peak of the Disco craze. From beginning to end this is very much a Salsoul release and could almost be a companion piece to the Salsoul Orchestra self titled debut or it’s “Nice and Nasty” album. But there is a lushness and a European sophistication to “Spring Rain” that is very much unique and the album as a whole stands apart from Salsoul’s other releases of the mid 1970’s. The gorgeous title track became an international pop and Disco smash and equally beautiful “Voyage Of No Return” became a hit as well. The funkier “Primitive Man” also received club play and “Coconut Rain” also found a home at Discos in New York, Philadelphia and Chicago. It was not an easy task to release an album full of instrumentals in Disco obsessed 1976 but Silvetti did just that and scored a hit. There is much more to “Spring Rain” then just the title track. Disco is not the theme of the album as a whole, even though it will get you moving. “Smile At Dawn” is irresistibly sexy and funky, and “Fortune Teller” is equally seductive and musically rich. “Two Cups Of Coffee” and the lovely album closer “Contigo” could easily fit into the smooth jazz format today, 37 years after these songs were first released. An over all beautiful album from Silvetti that has rightfully earned its place as one of Salsoul’s masterpieces.Big Thanks to Big Break Records for re-mastering this long out of print gem, which was a much sought after item for crate diggers and collectors. As is always the case with a BBR re-master, the sound is fantastic, the liner notes are informative and the title track is available here in it’s Single Version as a Bonus track. The album’s glorious original album cover art front and back is preserved as well. A treasure for any Disco/R&B lover and collector.
